PDeF

Fill in a PDF on your phone: fully mobile, without an app

A PDF form can be filled in entirely on a smartphone, without an app and without a computer: you open the file in the mobile browser, tap where the text should go, write the entry, add ticks, sign with your finger and save the finished PDF. The PDeF editor is built for small screens; the page scales to the display width automatically, even for landscape forms or unusually wide tables. For many people the phone is the only device they are online with at all, which makes mobile usability the normal case here, not an extra.

  1. 1. Open the PDF on your phone

Open the editor in the phone browser and pick the PDF from your downloads, from a mail attachment or straight from the camera scan app. A paper form photographed with the phone and saved as a PDF works too, as long as the scan app captured the page straight and legible.

  2. 2. Tap the fields and fill them

Pick the text tool and tap the line in the form: a field appears and the keyboard opens immediately, with no delay. The font size adapts to the line automatically, and longer entries in tight boxes are scaled down rather than cut off. Two zoom buttons or a two-finger gesture enlarge tight forms so you can hit the right spot.

  3. 3. Sign with your finger

With the signature tool you draw directly on the touchscreen, with a finger or a stylus. The signature is placed transparently into the document, with no white box around it, and can then be moved and resized like any other field.

  4. 4. Save and send

The download puts the finished PDF into your files; from there you share it through the usual share menu by mail or messenger, or upload it directly to a portal such as jobcenter.digital, without a detour via a computer.

Tips

  • Everything runs locally in the phone browser: the file is not uploaded, not on mobile either.
  • Tip for heavy users: fill in on the computer and only fetch the signature from your phone via QR code, that is the fastest combination.
  • For very small boxes in dense tables it pays to zoom in briefly with two fingers before tapping: the editor measures the printed box automatically and then hits the right one even when several sit close together.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need an app?

No. The editor runs in the normal phone browser (Safari, Chrome, Firefox), without installation and without an account.

Does it work on iPhone and Android?

Yes, on both. The editor is built mobile-first and is tested on every current smartphone browser.

Can I sign on the phone screen?

Yes. With the signature tool you draw straight on the touchscreen with your finger or a stylus; the signature is inserted transparently.

Where does the finished PDF end up?

In your phone's download folder. From there you share it by mail or messenger, or upload it to a portal.

Is the file uploaded to a server?

No. Processing happens in the phone browser; the PDF stays on your device.

What if my phone screen is very small?

The editor fits the page width to any screen size, including older or unusually compact phones. When the print is tiny, an extra pinch-zoom helps.
